Oblivion - Not a total Loss - Spoilers?

Post by Massterloo » Sat Apr 20, 2013 6:34 am

Damn it. It didn't suck. It even has Tom Cruise, and when it doesn't have Tom Cruise mugging face time.....It's got Tom Cruise mugging face time, and I still can't pan the movie. Even when the "female partner" starts to annoy the hell out of you, you find out she has a reason to be annoying.

It was worth the price of admission, and time to watch.

WELL......There is one "Will Smith/Jeff Goldbloom -They just open the doors for you?" face palm scene at the end, but I don't do spoilers unless a movie is so bad, I do so to protect others, and their sanity. This movie spent the time to do it right.

Well.......Maybe the surprise moments were not that big a surprise. Maybe you can see every bit of Sam Rockwell's "Moon" in this movie. It does not mean you cant steal a major plot point and make a good movie for Tom Cruise.

I want to see it. Was Morgan Freeman cool in it? That would make it worth it to me.

The effects were great, so seeing it in an IMAX theater was definitely the way to go. The story delivered for being your typical blockbuster, very derivative kind of movie, but I always enjoy an action movie with great effects.

the actual "alien" interaction near the end was pretty meh-disappointing, but that didn't ruin my overall enjoyment.

Yes, Morgan Freeman's role was good. I wish he was in more of it.

More Morgan Freeman would have defeated the purpose of the Morgan Freeman, imo. The demands of the plot were all Jack, all the time, no matter who they had put in as Jack.

It was pretty boilerplate for the genre plotwise, but still a good presentation of it overall, and I watched it with someone who doesn't usually watch that much of the genre, so it had better impact on her.

Effects and graphics were still really good in a non-imax Digital theater as well, in case you're opposed to paying extra money just to wear stupid glasses while you watch a movie.

I didn't see it in 3D, just in an IMAX theater, so just an awesome high, large-ass screen. 3D can make me feel blearghy or give me a headache most of the time.

I went in to this expecting 3/10 and came out thinking 7/10, so I was pretty satisfied as well. These pair movies.. (Oblivion, and the new Will Smith one coming out soon After Earth) usually one is awful and one is pretty decent. I thought After Earth looked better from watching both trailers, but now I fear to expect so much.

I dunno, Will Smith just doesn't do it for me, and seeing his kid in everything now kind of seems lame. I don't know why.

Tom Cruise looked really good in this movie too, they must have CG'd his face because he doesn't look nearly that young/fit IRL.

I was wondering how they achieved that, because he's looking far more long in the tooth nowadays.

Thought about going to see this in the theater even though I'm not that excited about the movie itself. The effects they used to make the sky fortress thing were really impressive. It wasn't CG, they actually built like a huge TV around it & it had captured video of sky on it. Seems pretty cool.
