Lerner, the IRS, Holder and the DOJ.

No wonder she took the 5th.

Sure looks like this is emerging as a coordinated attack on conservative elements by Lerner. Don't know if it goes any higher than her, and possibly the Senator. But still.. the IRS wields enormous power, and its HAS to be above reproach. If what this article suggests is true, she should do some serious time behind bars.

Won't happen though. It would be the DOJ that has to prosecute, and (laughably), they'd have to recuse themselves for conflict of interest.
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

It certainly did target the Tea Party's favorite crime. To what degree that's deliberate, partisan targeting, and to what degree that's the choice of said partisans to knowingly violate the law, and therefore place themselves out there as targets that should be prosecuted by ANY competent administration with the intent of crying partisan targeting as a way to evade prosecution is entirely questionable.

If there is a reason to look at any group closer, then I have no problem with them doing that. No group should be above reproach simply because of their affiliation. I can't care what their affiliation is.

Not sure you're getting the finer detail here.

If you recall, Lerner responded to a question that she had planted. Her response addressed allegations that the IRS was targeting conservative groups, and she stated that it was just a few "rogue" agents in a Cincinnati office, and it didn't go any higher than that. Now we have this email, that shows just days before she made that statement, she was asking the the DOJ to prosecute these groups. So this shows with absolute clarity she was actively involved in targeting the groups, knew well about it, and was targeting them with prosecution in mind.

Essentially, she was trying to run her own sting operation. That was well outside her scope, and opens her up to criminal prosecution. It also explains why IRS is refusing to release emails. Again, no wonder she took the 5th. I hope Congress tosses her ass in a detention cell.

That's not an accurate description of the email.

The email shows that DOJ reached out to Lerner to ask who at the IRS the DOJ could talk to about prosecuting applicants who lied on their 1024. The email does not show that Lerner asked the DOJ to prosecute conservative groups.

IMO, the email makes it appear as if the IRS is a coordination point for the potential prosecution of groups. There was clearly talk about whether IRS, DOJ and FEC should all work together or whether the IRS/DOJ and IRS/FEC discussions should be separate.

This is not something the IRS should be coordinating, or feeling like they need to coordinate.

Taxation has always been one of the key methods of attack for the FBI.

You mean IRS, right? Which is controlled by the sitting Administration.

Next... IRS "lost" two years of Lerner emails. At least that's the reason they say they can't produce them.

Anyone getting the picture yet? How long will you take "I only found out about this on the evening news" as an excuse from Obama?

"Lost" is not some wringing your hands, twisting your moustache excuse. The IRS email server had restrictions on mailbox size, so she set up a personal folder in Outlook on her computer, and sometime ago her computer crashed and the store was lost. Fairly common occurrence in the real world. Since the IRS is not considered a political organization, it is not subject to the more stringent email storage rules that the government is.
