if anyone is interested in seeing how the beta is coming along, i've found two SC2 voicecasters on youtube that are cool to watch: youtube.com/huskystarcraft and youtube.com/hdstarcraft

i haven't bothered with the beta yet but its looking to be a pretty sweet game. maybe some other beta players can chime in with how the play is going.

Launching today - anyone getting? I'll admit I only played the beta twice, but I was impressed. It sucks how they are releasing it (in 3 waves to get the full game) and it sucks that I can't play LAN, but if my friends pick this up today I probably will too.

I'm seriously considering picking it up after tooling around with the beta. (Even though I completely despise Blizzard/Activision's attempt to suck more money from their customers by releasing it in 3 waves.)

28 single player missions in the first episode really doesn't mean they're giving any less though?

Friends have been playing it since midnight last night and have been pretty impressed.

I have the game - I'm still on the fence when comparing it to the original

the missions are shorter than the original series but have higher replay value due to the whole "achievement system" of going after specific goals in a mission

the game has more cinematics than the original, but cinematics do not make gameplay for me

I would recommend buying it
but honestly I had more fun in the original campaigns, and the campaign missions lasted longer - and had a better story (personal opinion)

SC2 is more creative for its missions -- I'll give it that :)

Here's a better question.

I'm one of those who suck at RTS's. I started watching replays of matches, and there's no way in hell I can keep up with that kind of speed.

What's a good selling point for buying this game if I manage to slog through the single player campaign if I know I'm gonna get creamed online?

Looking back now, I'm glad I bought it. I don't (and probably never will) play through the campaign so I only had to buy the first wave of the game to play online. I'm loving it so far.

You know they're going to do updates for the online part as well...

How else would they capitalize on that sector of the playerbase?

Maybe I'm alone on this one -- But I always found the biggest draw to Starcraft was the campaign mode. I enjoyed the story more than the actual gameplay. I just picked up SC2 and haven't just kinda cruised through the first mission, but it seems to be on-par with the first as far as story and such goes. I like that they managed to make it feel familiar while still upgrading the UI, too.

If you want to play online, the battle.net system auto-matches you with people around your skill level. You may get creamed for the first couple of games but you'll end up with a win-some-lose-some track record. Spare a thought for us poor Aussies in the same geographic region as Korea...

I wish I knew. :(

Battle.Net's technical director is even an Aussie (I went to university with him), so go figure.
