what is rap

Post by rajavengerGIA » Tue Feb 22, 2005 5:24 pm

what is it honestly i keep hearing the damn waste of space. poetry with a beat my ass its talking fast with people who cant sing so they say words at a fast pace. if i gave enimem an instrument he would shove it up his ass and blow it out without even playing one note. they all pretend to be gangster with their songs and yet they live in big ass mansions where they dont do shit but rap and most are so retarded they go broke in 5 seconds anyway. can u find me at least one rapper who has more than 5 songs without a stolen beat or lyrics from anyone elses. theres a few but thats it. rap is not music but posers who just make peoples ear bleeds. they got no morals less than any rock band. o say one damn thing tupac is a idol kiss my ass. more people hated him than any other band. rap is a travesty that is corrupting kids becuase they think its kewl that they know the whole song EVEN THOUGH THEY REPEAT THE SAME FUCKING LINE EVERY SONG.

sorry this rant has been brought to you by a kid whos pissed off about hearing people saying rap is better than rock adn all rock is screaming
here gnomer gnomer gnomer i got a treat for u....BANG

Rap is a form of music derived from hip hop.

At classic hip hop parties the Master of Ceremonies would introduce the DJ with short rhymes or rhythmic sayings throughout the music, initially this was an after thought and was never thought of as actual music. The MCs took it farther and father until it became its own form of music.

Good rap exists, it's just hard to find. DJ Shadow is a prime example.

I find it ironic that this thread was started by a moron who can't communicate, and he's commenting on a form of communication.
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

Rap is music. Like all genres of music, there is the good and the bad. Now if you're looking at a technical point, Rap is bad. But it's entertaining. Different people have different musical tastes.

I don't discredit rap... it's just not something I listen to much of. The mainstream rap scene is too competitive that it's almost like every year theres some new gimmick/idea that they're trying to sell. I think this years gimmick is the annoying repeating noise gimmick.

The history of 'rap' is derived from the Jamaican art of 'toasting' by a DJ back in the late 70's and early 80's - basically freeform commentary by the DJ over a popular dance track. It spread into the United States through New York City, where it was married to turntables and 'sampling'. The first mainstream 'rap' hit was 'Rapper's Delight' by the Sugar Hill Gang, and still a classic.

For me, personally, the genre went downhill with the overuse of 'gangsta' rap to sell records - although N.W.A. was clearly a tremendously skilled group, clones of them were of at best dubious quality - a distressing trend that continues even today.

As far as 'fast talking over a beat', what the fuck do you think lyrics are, anyways?

I remember when people used to say punk wasn't "really music" and that punk musicians couldn't play their instruments.

There's some great rap and hip hop out there, you just can't listen to the crap on the radio, same as any other musical genre.

Lots and lots of metal and rock bands have incorporated rap vocal styles into their sound. (From Faith No More to Kid Rock.)

Give a listen to Bone Thugs' "Thug Love." It does everything rock and roll should do. It gets the adrenaline up and pisses you off.

Things just ain't the same for gangstas.
Times is changing, young niggas is aging,
Becoming old gees in the game and changing,
To make way for these new names and faces, but
The strangest things can happen from rappin, when
Niggas get wrapped up in image and actin,
Niggas get capped up and wrapped in plastic,
Zipped up in bags when it happens, that's it.
I've seen em come; I've watched em go,
Watched em rise, witnessed it and watched em blow.
Watched em up high, suddenly watched em grow.
Watched the lawsuits when they lost the dough.
Best friends and money: I lost them both.
Went, visited niggas in the hospital.
It's all the same shit all across the globe.
I just sit back and watch the show.
