So, a friend of mine talked me into playing some with him last weekend. We went to a new server where we couldn't transfer characters to and started new characters. I logged out last night at level 56 with 9 aa. Everquest is considerably easier now thanks to Mercenaries.

Also, I'm playing a Ranger and this is a hell of a lot of fun.

Rangers are the new powerhouses in EQ...On most parses they are even outdoing wizards and necro's for DPS!

That's awesome. I logged out last night (now 2 weeks back) at 64, with 73 aa and my Epic 1.0 complete. Still having a ton of fun. Headshot is awesome. I can only imagine how much fun it was before they nerfed it.

Really? I've been hanging out in Sebilis cause I can headshot the live frogs at 64 and it's actually decent regular xp (and desperately needed money). Vox is low population so the prices are retarded and there's not much available in the bazaar.

Got any suggestions on a leveling path? I'm planning to stop at 65 and grind some AA (I've only got Combat Fury and Archery stuff thus far, thinking about staying there until 200-300 aa or so) unless you can recommend a better idea.

I should also mention I'm currently just soloing by taking a tank merc and letting him tank while I plunk arrrows - it seems to be more time efficient than snare kiting/chain rooting.

Before I get you all worked up over what AA's to get..which version of EQ you running atm bud? Are you on a live-server or the others where you can only get so many lvl's-AA?...With that said...Max every damn Archery AA you have as well as your spellcasting..any aa that helps you get your spells off faster will help you in the long run...

On the live server and on the test server where I play...just go up to PoTime...then off to FoScale...if you don't..anyplace with humanoid mobs will do the trick!

I'm on a regular Live server. Vox is just a newer server, but it's not restricted at all - you just can't transfer characters to it. Time you say? Interesting..

Yea once you get to field of scale off the plane of time..( where zeb hangs out) you run to the area where All the sarnaks, iksars etc are grouped together...Then just vinelash and headshot all day long...might wanna bring a cleric merc if you have one..Vinelash doesn't always land..lol

Nope, level 90 Necro w/ J5 Merc Tank, 86 Monk w/ J5 Cleric, level 81 Ranger w/ J5 Tank, level 75 Shaman, and my level 75 Ranger w/ his 75 J3 Cleric (to sub when the main cleric merc ran out). Merc held aggro on all the mobs, we just burned down the adds. We tried Corniav last night but we made the mistake of killing him before we killed the last of his guards, so the event reset.

I don't see a dot for where to stack the dead wizard corpses.

It's crazy to think how much harder the newer content is compared to the EQ we remember so fondly. They just announced another new EQ expansion yesterday, can go up to level 100, and they're finally putting in an automated Bazaar so you can sell offline (!).

Just put in a request to recover my account, since I'll be damned if I can remember it. I might pop in to check this out.

Not sure if anyone is still doing this, but I got my account back (after a surprisingly painless, yet lengthy process) and figure I might just check things out. Anyway, I'd be happy to look up some old faces at some point.
