My life certainly turned out better than I thought it would. I won't bore you with the details of the small personal achievements that are ultimately just part of growing up, and growing older in America. In 2002 I was 32 years old and expected things to stay the same. But here I am almost 38 now and can look back and see that they really did get better.
Looking back on it it's sort of depressing to think that I did not reasonably expect the good fortune that I have had, but I have always been a bit of a pessimist.
"A few months ago, I told the American people I did not trade arms for hostages. My heart and best intentions still tell me that's true, but the facts and evidence tell me it is not." - Ronald Reagan 1987
