Re: Egypt

We don't have a history of removing officials from government and installing new ones Sure we do, just not generally in America. Iran 1953, anyone? Saddam? The Taliban? You forgot Frederick Wilhelm, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini and Hirohito. We're not discussing your role models here; pay attenti...

Re: Obamacare

You may even see growing businesses snap off revenue lines and form a few smaller businesses to avoid the 50 person threshold. I've heard that kicked around in some of the business groups I'm in. One person suggested forming a company to employ all the administrative staff, then lease them to the m...

Re: Obamacare

Aside from Partha's evil snark, when have business decisions been anything else but in the business's interests? Somewhere Partha got the word "business" confused with the word "charity". Conflating eternal cost cutting with 'business's interests' is part of the reason we don't have a manufacturing...

Shhh, don't tell anyone, but Italians, Irish, and Eastern European folks weren't white in this country either, at different points.

Re: Holy Crap, Texas

In Ohio they're trying to pass a law that requires women to have ultrasounds before they can receive birth control What the hell? Clearly men should take random paternity tests before being prescribed Viagra as well. Dd Actually a female member of the state legislature proposed a bill that essentia...

Embar must be under that delusion again that African Americans are treated equally by the police or the 'police' as white suburbanites.

Because, remember, kids: Your boss loves you so much he'd rather you be on the dole than you have health care.

This must be the modern version of 'Let them eat cake'.

It does if you want to make money off the privatization. Notice they don't mind welfare as long as you're spending the proceeds with the school they own.

I also love the way it covers people who want abortions, too.

"Here, lady, you want to kill your baby just because the father is a rapist? First you must let me assault you with a ten inch plastic item. No trrauma."

Re: Welp, that didn't take long

Yep, you know their days of winning elections are just about done when they're reduced to off-year redistricting and voter suppression. Pretty soon they'll be on networks telling their incredulous children that they remember when white people ran the country and everyone LIKED IT!

Re: Aum: Terrorism and Response

The key would then have to be to get other countries to arrest those criminals, that are in other countries. I remember Pakistan being real angry we got Bin Laden....and not just because they were not asked first. We killed their guest. Not that I like the government listening to my phone sex, but ...

Re: Big Brother Is Listening...

You aren't wrong. I don't like the idea of people not being able to represent themselves. But at the same time I see how easily the people of this country are swayed by gimmicks, lies, and media management & that scares me. Maybe the vote thing isn't the answer, but I wish someone smarter than I wo...

I think the key is you don't treat terrorists like an opposing country and army, you treat them like criminals and outlaws.

Re: Big Brother Is Listening...

Naw Partha, this isn't a left-right or even a me-them statement. I think people who vote for candidates that I don't necessarily align with should count as long as they actually know enough about the person to legitimize their vote. If I can't answer a short questionnaire correctly about the person...

@Dd... yeah, we get what we deserve as a government, and that makes me want to vomit. There are so many under informed, lazy people on both sides of the political fence. Societies mirror the environment. Many prey, few predators. Guess who most of the electorate are. Guess who the politicians (and ...

Harlowe wrote:That's my point Partha, both sides use it to the limit and that's a problem.
That's not the point. It's not a conscious decision. If it was a matter of 'sides' then Presidential power would be proscribed every time one party ran the Congress and the other one ran the Presidency.
