Re: Obamacare

So, after many delays, I am finally able to compare plans where I'm at. The cheapest Bronze plan with my piddly tax credit (I mean, seriously, it's almost worth it not to take the damned thing) is about $180/month. The one I'm looking at right now is from Coventry. $212/mo. Yes, the deductible is $6...

Re: Seymour Hersh on American Journalism

"Do you think Obama's been judged by any rational standards? Has Guantanamo closed? 1) A little bit of 'research' would tell Hersh the answer to his question, and that ain't on Obama. Methinks he carries a bit of a torch for Snowden if he's seriously complaining that the Obama administration is wor...

Re: Obamacare

This is why companies not so secretly love Obamacare - it takes a cost off their balance sheet, and since everyone is in on it, their total cost per employee drops quite a bit. This is why companies overseas don't have a problem paying higher minimum wages and generally have much less stressful work...

Re: Egypt

No. I'm assuming the following: i) Iran has a whole bunch of spoilers planned for any invasion. It's fairly clear their first act on any invasion will be to mine Hormuz and as much of the Persian Gulf as they can, alone with a broad based missile attack on shipping in the gulf. Doesn't matter what ...

Re: Egypt

I'll repeat my question that you couldn't answer above. Try making a stab at it this time, Herr General. While we're at it, Shinseki lost his job pre-Iraq for telling BushCo that you would need several hundred thousand troops to keep order in Iraq - which turned out to be absolutely correct. How man...

Re: Egypt

True story: When the Iran-Iraq war started, Iran didn't have enough weapons to outfit all the people it took into the army. When it came time to send men into places where they'd be clearing mines and such, they gave them keys. The keys to Heaven, the commanders told the troops. Do you REALLY want ...

That's good to hear, you're a little young yet for the Alpo and red wine diet.

A smart liberal bloc would refuse to sign off on a Syria AUMF without getting rid of the Iraq one.

Re: Egypt

Azerbaijan and Lebanon are Shia majority, as well, although very small countries. More importantly, Sunni/Shi'a ratios in Western states, India, and Indonesia are more like 60-40 or 55-45. And if you define 'stable' by Saudi Arabia, they're also some of the most radical Sunni and finance such wonder...

No, it wouldn't, because nukes. Israel has em and the Arab world don't. And no leader wants to glow in the dark, the ones who do died long before they became leaders.

Re: Syria

Someone else unlocked this for today and tomorrow, but relevant: https://www.nsfwcorp.com/scribble/5707/79f1c70f9b125665da4dd87078175fb22f810d1f/ Doesn’t that leave the anomaly standing, though? Why would the West get so upset, so suddenly, about this chemical attack on the same people who’ve been d...

Re: Syria

You can do one of three things.

1) Invade. This is the option for nutbars.

2) Provide weapons and support but not troops. This is the option for nutbars who forget how Vietnam went.

3) Nothing. This is the logical choice, and therefore everyone will hate it.

Re: Patriot Act and violation of privacy

Detaining is one thing. Confiscating their stuff after having proven that nothing incriminating was on it is another. So is holding them for the maximum amount of time just to be a dick. It's like the Jose Padilla case - there's a difference between terrorism concerns and just plain doing shit becau...

Re: Egypt

Technology argues against that. Nothing kills totalitarianism dead quite like rapid information access and transmission. If not for US missteps, we'd have an Iran already out from under the mullahs already, for one thing.

Re: Obamacare

Can't you chalk that stuff up to "asshole companies are assholes"? Dd My money is on this one. Companies deciding to use a situation (and convenient scapegoat) to increase their bottom line, has zero to do with whether ACA lowers healthcare costs or not. This is why quality employers like Walmart a...

Re: Obamacare

Not in the exchange. Due to the rule that insurers have to spend at least 80 percent on actual health care, customers and employers (that contributed) get rebates from the difference if they don't. Which, when you think about it, blows holes in the argument that costs will skyrocket as people are a...

Re: Egypt

You cannot have an 'honest' conversation about anything in this country as long as the other side is so militantly hostile to what you're doing that they'll use any excuse to attack you. But, if we were picking sides in the ME, in Egypt the military is sadly the better of the two sides for US intere...
